2009 Geneva Motor Show

The Geneva Motor Show opens to the public and the Swiss miss of all auto shows looks to be a lot sweeter than the dour events consumers have been treated to in the United States this season. With over 130 vehicles being introduced, more than twice as many as were rolled out in Detroit at the North American International Auto Show in January.

Jaguar prepares R Performance Academy

The Jaguar XFR and XKR are two of the most powerful Jaguar’s ever built. When either vehicle is placed in the hands of non-experienced driver they could cause serious damage – to both the car and driver. To remedy this predicament, Jaguar is thinking of launching an R Performance Academy for new owners of the XFR and XKR models. The school will open in April and the cost for one day’s instruction will be Ł400. Jaguar also plans on creating a Jaguar World, in the style of the Mercedes-Benz Welt. With this attraction the company hopes to expose Jaguar’s cars to a wider audience.

Bugatti to unveil new model in September

If you were disappointed by the Bleu Centenaire edition of the Veyron that Bugatti unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show this month to celebrate its 100th anniversary, you're not alone. Hopes were high that the long-anticipated higher-output version of the Veyron would be unveiled at the Swiss show. But fret not, at least if these latest reports are to be believed, as Bugatti is said to be preparing an altogether new car that will be unveiled in September.

First images of Lamborghini Murciélago LP 650-4 Roadster

Lamborghini has just released the first batch of official images showing its latest limited run special, the Murciélago LP 650-4 Roadster, which follows the LP 670-4 SuperVeloce that debuted at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month. The LP 650-4 Roadster is definitely not for those who deny their follicle deficiencies by wearing a rug on their head. With a top speed of 205 mph, anything not firmly connected to your scalp will be lost to the winds.

The world's first 'green' supercar

The idea behind the setup is to produce enough hydrogen on board and inject it into the fuel stream to get the benefits of the gas (increased fuel economy, higher octane and reduced emissions) without having to top up at non-existent hydrogen refueling stations. Combined with the ultra-efficient V6, Ronn Motors claims a boost in mileage of around 20 to 30% and a substantial drop in C02 output. With only 2,200 pounds weighing the Scorpion down, the company estimates fuel mileage at around 40 miles-per-gallon.

2009 Mazda6 s Grand Touring

2009 Mazda6 arrives with a new design, more room and more power as the brand's all-new offering in the hotly contested mid-size sedan segment. Being a Mazda, the new 6 will be compared just as much to the sedan it replaces as to competitors from Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Ford and Chevrolet. The prior version was the driver's choice among this field of vanilla four-doors, and the 2009 model must scream Mazda's mantra just as loudly while appealing to more customers. For 2009, the Mazda6 comes in SV, Sport, Touring and Grand Touring trim levels with two available engines.

Honda Recall - 2009

American Honda is recalling about 420 Odyssey vans from the 2009 model year to fix a brake problem.

The company said that during assembly, incorrect brake hoses were installed. Over time, the hose can contact the caliper bolt, potentially creating a hole through which brake fluid could leak.

This could cause sudden brake system failure.

010 Hyundai HND-4 Hybrid

Hybrid is the word of the year in the auto industry, which is moving to develop automobiles that use eco-friendly technology. The Lee Myung-bak administration is emphasizing the importance of “green growth” and consumers the world over are growing more aware of the benefits of fuel-efficient products, which is why companies are rushing to develop hybrid vehicles. With Korea’s largest domestic auto exposition, the Seoul Motor Show, scheduled to start later this week, Hyundai Motor, the largest car supplier in the country, unveiled its futuristic hybrid concept car, the HND-4.The slim and sporty vehicle is equipped with a 1,600 cc GDI (gasoline direction injection) engine and a 100-kilowatt engine or 154 horse power capacity. The vehicle also runs on a lithium polymer battery, meaning it could go for up to 64 kilometers (39.7 miles) on a single charge.

Hybrid Car Battery, Bose Radio

Earlier today, GM held a Web conference to discuss progress in its program to integrate the upcoming extended-range hybrid-electric Volt into the nation's electrical grid.Among the presenters were GM's Tony Posawatz, Mark Duval of EPRI (the Electric Power Research Institute) and San Francisco's Clean Transportation Advisor, Bob Hayden.Although the discussion was mostly aimed at infrastructure planners, a few worthwhile automotive details emerged anyway. Such as:

Mazda Goes Diesel

The company that keeps you grinning with MX-5 Miatas and MazdaSpeed 3--and is bringing the Kiyora concept pictured here to the Paris Motor Show next month--will match the new Mercedes-Benz unit in both cylinder count and displacement. The Mazda MZR-CD 2.2-liter turbocharged clean diesel four doesn't make as much power as the new knockout from Benz, but 182 horsepower and 295 lb-ft are both more horsepower, and way more torque, than the frisky 2.0-liter unit in the Miata. And 42 U.S. mpg is positively Prius-like.

2009 Hyundai Canadian Car

It said that the Genesis scored 803 points in a review by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada, which selected the Genesis as the best luxury car under $50,000 in October, and was announced as the car of the year during the media preview of the Canadian International AutoShow on Wednesday.

Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE

Ferrari has freshened its 205mph 599 GTB with an optional £13,960 handling pack to woo the keener driver and given it some minor styling touches including race-style three-piece split rim wheels.
  • Likes: breath-taking performance, nimbler improve-as-you-drive handling, stunning looks, luxury cabin, sensational sound approaching full power
  • Dislikes: I can’t afford one, no spare wheel despite country covering ability, complex engineering, still thirsty despite 16% improvement
  • Pedestrian-halting looks as you deserve for a £200,000 plus car with a 620bhp six-litre engine derived directly from the mighty Enzo under its long, sweeping bonnet. Big 20-inch diameter wheels, revealing dinner-plate size brakes, hint at the Formula One technology Ferrari has transferred into this car for a unique driving experience that actually looks something of a bargain compared to £325,000 for a Merc McLaren.

The Home Of The World's Fastest Car

It’s something Raphanel has clearly seen (and heard) a good few times before. He turns to me with a knowing smile when he finally lifts off, stating that the Veyron has that effect on everyone. He clearly enjoys his job demonstrating it, too. Still travelling at a speed that the Gendarmes wouldn’t find remotely amusing he gives me a second or two to compose myself before pummelling me again. This time he’s hit the brakes. Without warning I’m flung against my seatbelt, the Veyron’s enormous carbon ceramic discs combining with the airbrake to produce 2G of braking force, removing all that momentum as quickly as the W16 engine created it.

Bugatti Veyron

The irony isn’t lost on me when arriving at Bugatti’s Molsheim production facility when the security man at the gate takes my driving license off me for identification. He gives me a Bugatti visitor badge to replace it.A fair trade perhaps, but I doubt whether it’d be much use if I’m pulled over later for speeding. And that’s not entirely unlikely as I’m here to drive the car you voted Car of the Year 2006, the Bugatti Veyron. And it’s capable of a quite ridiculous 253mph. Anybody who knows their cars knows the numbers; 1001hp or if you’re used to good old bhp, 987bhp. That’s perhaps disappointing if you want to brag to your pedantic gazillionaire pals that your car’s packing over 1000bhp. Until you realise that 1001hp is a minimum figure, set in the worst conditions. To be sure it never produces less than its claimed output, Bugatti quietly suggesting the mighty 8.0-litre, 16-cylinder engine actually develops around 1050hp, or 1035bhp to you and me. And that’s plenty. It’s enough to make this carbon-fibre machine produce some scarcely believable figures. On the way to that headline 253mph top speed it’ll reach 62mph in just 2.5 seconds, 124mph in 7.3 seconds and 186mph in 16.7 seconds.

Aston Martin DBS

When launching a new car most manufacturers are content with a grand unveiling at a motor show followed by a mass-media advertising bombardment. The world got its first glimpse of the Aston Martin DBS as it barrel-rolled across the silver screen in Casino Royale. The car's muscular appearance caused as much speculation in the motoring press as new Bond Daniel Craig's did in the gossip columns but it was a lengthy wait before the production model was ready for the road and its full specification revealed. It would be easy to think of the 'S' as a DB9 that has been the subject of a rigorous training programme to bring it up to fighting trim. Its intentions are signalled by the adoption of the motoring equivalent of lycra and training shoes; spoilers, scoops and carbon-fibre. A wider stance, beefier wings and bigger wheels work together to distance it from the DB9 but the bling rear lights and renaming the key an 'Emotion Control Unit' are rather over the top. Aston Martin would rather you thought of this car as a road going version of its Le Mans winning DBR9 racer. Perhaps the truth is somewhere in between.

Scalextric Street Pursui

This new slot car set really will put you in a spin! The Scalextric set-up features a clever 360-degree sliding action that lets you drift cars into corners. It comes with a Lamborghini Gallardo model and a police-livered Range Rover, complete with flashing blue lights and siren. The figure-of-eight layout is designed to allow both cars to hang their tail out in bends using the maker's unique 'guideblade' system.

Car Action Camera

Capturing your track day antics on film is a great way to relive the excitement - and the Action Camera is the perfect tool for the job. Unlike rivals, it has a built-in 32MB flash memory to record the footage, so you don't need a separate hard drive. Memory is expandable with SD cards and it can be strapped pretty much anywhere. The rubberised shell protects it from bumps, it's splash-proof and downloading images is easy via the supplied USB cable.

From Vespas to Gixxers and everything in between, spend less time online and more time on the road with our motorbike insurance comparison tool.

2002 Audi Allroad quattro

It caused a bit of an uproar in the press when the Prince of Wales did a deal with Audi instead of buying British, but presumably he just couldn't see himself being driven around town in a TVR or strapping himself into a Noble.According to a St James's Palace spokeswoman 'Vauxhall have decided to stop making Omegas so he has had to pick another car' - and so he ordered a matched pair of these for himself and Camilla. Audi, clearly delighted, admitted, 'This deal is worth its weight in gold. The Prince is probably our most important customer.' Probably?

1989 Aston Martin Vantage Volante

In place of genuinely new models, and in what eventually became standard practice for constantly-cash-strapped Aston Martin, the cleanly styled V8 gradually sprouted a variety of increasingly wild body mods and numerous, even larger engine conversions reaching a peak with the rather vulgar Vantage and Vantage Volante 6.3. Prince Charles stuck with the marque, however, and even ordered a hot convertible for himself, albeit without the tacky side skirts and flared wheel arches. The less-is-more idea caught on, and a handful of replicas were later built in what is still known as Prince of Wales specification.

Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6

Chrysler Crossfire

The Chrysler Crossfire is a rear-wheel drive, sports car marketed by Chrysler as both coupé and roadster and built for Chrysler by Karmann of Germany.

Design

The two-seater arrived in 2001 as a concept car designed by Eric Stoddard with further refinement by Andrew Dyson before production in 2003.The Crossfire's fastback roof and broad rear fenders made for a rear end design that prompted automotive journalists to describe the new car's resemblance to American Motor's 1965-1967 Marlin. For example, Rob Rothwell wrote ...when I first espied the rear lines of the Chrysler Crossfire I was instantly transported back to 1965 and my favorite car of that year, the Rambler Marlin
The name Crossfire refers to the two character lines that run from front to rear along the body sides — crossing each other midway through the door panel. Conceived during the period of Chrysler's ownership by Daimler-Benz, the name also refers to the collaboration of the two companies.

Construction and features

The Crossfire shares 59%[citation needed] of its components with other Mercedes models. The chassis is a combination of a modified C-class engine compartment, pre-2003 SLK platform, S-Class rear linkages and new stampings for the side rails and rear.
The standard transmission is a 6-speed manual with an optional 5-speed automatic. Base (Standard) and Limited models, originally sold beginning in the 2004 model year, are equipped with a 3.2 L, 18-valve, SOHC V6 engine which produces 215 hp (160 kW) and 229 lb·ft (310 N·m) of torque.

Saleen S5S Raptor

The Saleen S5S Raptor is a sports car revealed by Saleen, Inc. on 20 March 2008 at the 2008 New York International Auto Show. It is intended to be equipped with a Saleen 5.0 liter supercharged engine (similar to that used on the 2008 S302E) which will yield 650hp, capable of accelerating the car to 60mph in 3.2 seconds or less. The Raptor is expected to complete the 1/4 mile in 10.9 seconds. It is projected to retail for $185,000, roughly $400,000 less than the S7. Possible production may start in 2010, the Raptor represents a collaboration between Saleen's engineering team and the design group at ASC. Both companies are owned by Hancock Park Associates, a Los Angeles-based private equity firm.

2008 Ducati 848

Ducati has introduced their 2008 lineup and the 2008 Ducati 848 breaks cover with a 134 horsepower engine in a 369 pound package, giving the 848 a better power to weight ratio than the 999. Looks like a nice addition to their middleweight models. The words ‘agile’ and ‘refined’ aptly describe the 848. At 168 kg (369 lbs) the 848 is an amazing 20 kg (44 lbs) lighter than its predecessor, and a significant 5 kg (11 lbs) lighter than its larger capacity brother, the 1098.The highly advanced 848 engine uses an improved method of engine case production in which cases are vacuum die-cast formed. While providing significant weight savings of more than 3 kg (6.5 lbs), this method also ensures consistent wall thickness and increased strength. Further refinements include a sophisticated wet clutch that offers 1 kg (2.2 lbs) less weight, a much higher service life, improved clutch feel and quiet operation.

General Motors started producing the Chevrolet Camaro in 1967 and it continued for the next thirty-five years, until 2002. After a hiatus for several years, General Motors began production of the fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro on March 16, 2009.Camaro sales began in April 2009 for the 2010 model year.

Production

On 10 August 2006, GM Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner announced that GM would build an all-new version of the Chevrolet Camaro muscle car based on the award-winning concept that debuted at the Detroit auto show in January 2006. The all-new Camaro was originally scheduled to begin production at the end of 2008 and to go on sale in the first quarter of 2009 for the 2009 model year but General Motors stated in March 2008 that production would be delayed until February 2009 with the Camaro going on sale in the spring of 2009 for the 2010 model year.

Yamaha YZF R1

The Yamaha YZF R1 has been one of the fastest, most powerful and best handling litre-class sportsbikes since 1988, when it was first launched. Almost a decade on, the R1 is still getting better and better with each passing year. The 2007 model is no exception. It isn’t an-new, totally radical R1 replacement that we were expecting, but the 2007 R1 still looks awesome. In fact, Yamaha Motor Italia have gone ahead and signed Noriyuka Haga and Troy Corser, who'll be riding the new bike in the 2007 Super bike World Championship!

Honda CBR600RR

The Honda CBR600RR is a 599 cc (36.6 cu in) Honda super sport motorcycle that was introduced in 2003 as a race replica version of Honda's CBRFx series motorcycles. It has won every world supersport title since its introduction in 2003.

History

The CBR600RR was developed from and inspired by the Honda RC211V MotoGP bike. The similar physical appearance of the CBR600RR and RC211V is intentional. Underneath the looks lie MotoGP technologies that were made available for the first time on a production motorcycle such as the Unit Pro-Link rear suspension and Dual Stage Fuel Injection (PGM-DSFI). Both were taken directly from Honda's MotoGP bike. While it's not uncommon for street bikes to utilize racing technology, this was the first time totally new technologies found their way to the production line the same year they made their way to the professional racing grid. The bike receives the "RR" designation for "race replica" because of its emphasis on racing characteristics such as an advanced braced swingarm, center-up exhaust system, and more aggressive riding position. The 2003 model carried over to 2004 technically unchanged, but with new color schemes.
In 2005, the CBR600RR received a major revision with new body work, fully adjustable inverted front forks, a set of track-inspired disc brakes with radial-mounted four-piston calipers, and an entirely new aluminum frame, swingarm and rear shock. The midrange power was also increased. These changes along with additional refinements to the engine and exhaust system all came together to bring CBR600RR's weight down nine pounds, although Motorcycle USA.com measured the 2005 model as being 22 lb (10.0 kg) lighter than the 2004 model. MSRP for the 2005 model was US$8,799. Except for new color schemes, the 2006 model was unchanged from the 2005 model and had an MSRP of US$8,999.

2010 Opel Astra

Opel will unveil the fourth generation Astra next year in March, most probably at the Geneva Motor Show. The car was already caught at testing, and is set to be sold all over the globe - it will be sold under the Opel, Vauxhall, Holden and Saturn logos.

With design inspired by the Gtc Concept, the future Astra will feature a more "fresh" and aggressive look that will help it to easily compete with models like Volkswagen Golf VI and the new Ford Focus (European version).

2010 Opel Astra

Same front grille as in the newly-launched and also be used in the future Astra, but it will feature different headlights, easily inspired by the concept, in order to ensure the car’s individuality.

As rumors say, the 2010 Astra will be built on GM’s Delta global small-car platform, same that will be used for the future Saab 9-1. Under the hood the company will keep the same engine line-up: different headlights, but a hybrid version is also expected.
Opel will also work on a VXR version of the 2010 Astra. The vehicle is going to be powered by a new 1.8 liter engine capable to develop 240 hp. The sprint from 0 to 60 mph will be made in less than 6 seconds while the top speed will be somewhere around 155 mph.
The 2010 Astra will be offered as a three and five door hatchback, an estate version (Caravan), a convertible version (Twin Top) and also a three-doors GTC. All this will be available after the five-doors version will make its official debut.
The production of the 2010 Astra will be moved from the Antwerp plant, Belgium, to Swedish Saab unit, Trollhattan. Reason: better productivity and 25% less production costs.

World's Most Expensive Motorcycles

Motorcycles have had mass appeal to the general public for roughly a century and a half. An American named Sylvester Howard Roper designed one of the first motorcycles in the 1860s. The motorcycle was displayed at fairs and circuses around the eastern U.S.. Europeans also had their hand in popularizing motorcycles and during the World Wars, motorcycles functioned as a quick means of transportation.

As the motorcycle progressed, the engines and frames became bigger, sleeker, faster and more powerful, resulting in the high-tech and expensive motorcycles of today. If you can afford one, a custom motorcycle built to your exact specifications is within reach.

Currently, the most expensive motorcycles in production are fetching in between $100,000 and $200,000 US. While researching expensive motorcycles, we found 4 bikes that dominate all others in performance, appearance…and cost.

The fourth most expensive motorcycle we found is the new MV Agusta F4 CC created by Claudio Castiglioni, the motorcycle company's director. He wanted to create a spectacular motorcycle that met strategic marketing needs while also being something truly special and unique. The expensive motorcycle bearing his very own initials "CC" has a top speed of 315 kph (195 mph), 1078 cc's and a 198 hp engine. Each bike will boast a platinum plate located near the top of the steering column showing the model number from 1 to 100, making this motorcycle all the more special to its owners. This Italian dream costs 100,000 Euros ($133,745US).

MV Agusta F4 CC

Next on our list is the MTT Turbine Superbike costing $150,000 (111,000 Euros). Not only is this motorcycle expensive, its also extremely fast. The Superbike is the Guinness World Record holder for the "Most Powerful Motorcycle Ever to Enter Series Production". The turbine engine in this one is made by Rolls Royce and is capable of over 300hp. The motorcycle also boasts carbon fiber fairings, a rear mounted camera with LCD color display, forward-and rear-looking radar detector with laser scrambler, one touch "Smart Start" ignition, and many other cool gadgets. This bike seams to be pretty popular in Hollywood. It starred in the movie "Torque" and even Jay Leno owns one!

MTT Turbine Superbike

The Macchia Nera Concept Bike is near the top of the list of most expensive motorcycles at 150,000 Euros ($201,000). Built around a Ducati 998RS engine, its Italian designers and engineers set out to create an extremely high tech and expensive motorcycle that would be thought of as "the ultimate track bike" that is "simply beautiful and beautifully simple". The Testastretta engine is fitted with lightweight metals and alloys like titanium and aluminum making it very lightweight. The view from the side of the Macchia Nera shows exposed belts and engine components, giving its design a minimalist feel while still being aesthetically pleasing. We should add that this bike is a one of a kind and not in produced for retail at this point, but if you have an extra 150,000 Euros ($201,000) laying around for an expensive toy, your dream might come true.

Macchia Nera Concept Bike

The most expensive motorcycle in production will cost you at least $250,000. The production is limited to a few hundred models, so you better place your order. The Dodge Tomahawk V10 superbike boasts 8.3 liter engine (505 cubic inch), and the 10 cylinders can bring the bike to a maximum speed of almost 400 mph. The 1500lb bike has an independent 4 wheel suspension and can reach 60 mph in around 2.5 seconds
